‘Jubilee’ 2012, oil on canvas 76 x 101 cm. The day before the Jubilee Regatta, I made a drawing of the Thames from a point opposite the O2, as the boats were coming up the Thames ready for the Regatta. The muddle of improvised figures somehow attempts to record the sense of collective excitement experienced by many people on the day. Britain today is more diverse in terms of its cultural mix, compared to 60 years ago when the Queen came to the throne, London is a ‘World City’, for most of us this offers a fascinating opportunity socially and creatively.
