Romanticism in the Urban Environment

I am involved in the this upcoming exhibition:-

RSA Artist Fellows at the Portico, Manchester

RSA Manchester and The Portico Library Manchester, are sending out a call for artist Fellows and friends to submit work for an art exhibition entitled “Romanticism in the Urban Environment” to be held in the Portico Library, Manchester in July and August, 2011.

Many opportunities exist within the Fellowship for intellectual discourse and engagement through debate and practice but this can sometimes exclude those Fellows whose language is principally visual. The RSA Manchester Network would therefore like to provide a platform for Fellows to express their ideas on this topic in pictorial form.

The broad theme of the exhibition is the urban landscape. The city can be seen as a living museum of past and present voices and ambitions. Thus, a Romantic view of this landscape will be manifest in the artists’ emotional response to the history, the present, the future, the people and the vistas of the city; no less than the intellectual and emotional life of urban endeavour.

The RSA and the Portico perform an intermediary role in supporting enlightened change and intellectual liberation; thus the changing city can be seen as an expression of these endeavours.

The Portico Library & Gallery, Manchester will host an exhibition of RSA Artists and friends of the RSA during the months of July and August 2011. We are seeking artists from all backgrounds to submit work in various media (paintings, photography, sculpture, etc). A maximum of 10 artists will be chosen to take part in this prestigious exhibition.  This is an excellent opportunity to display and sell the work of RSA Fellows.

If you are interested and would like to submit some images (2-3 jpegs), or would like to know more, please email either Martin Stynes FRSA or Charlotte Wand, Exhibitions Organiser, The Portico.
